COMPENSATION: $46,837.00 to $85,598.00  base salary plus potential for variable compensation. Base pay is determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

About Our Opportunity

The Crop Insurance Account Specialist (CIAS) is responsible for selling and servicing all types of crop insurance coverage.  This person will build strong relationships with industry contacts; with Farm Credit Mid-America teams in the service territory and with the end customer.  The CIAS will use knowledge of insurance and agriculture to provide contacts with value added information and customized solutions for their individual needs. 

As a CIAS, you are responsible for compliance with all applicable insurance laws, regulations and all insurance company policies; and will be responsible for obtaining information needed for the insurance company to underwrite policies according to all appropriate laws and regulations.  The CIAS will work in the interest of providing the best possible crop insurance coverage that benefits both the customer and the Association.

How You Will Spend Your Time

  • Work with customers to provide crop insurance coverage and follow up servicing on smaller accounts.
  • Build business contacts, and other referral networks that aid in providing quality service to customers or prospects.
  • Assists in establishing new crop insurance policies for walk-in and telephone customers by determining the customers’ needs, completing worksheets, and transmitting information.
  • Assist the Insurance Officers in delivering and servicing related policies and products to larger customers.
  • Identify risk and offer solutions to farmers for the financial risk in their farming operation.
  • Assists Insurance Officers in receiving claims reports and insurance adjusting activities.
  • Communicates with customers, adjusters, and insurance company to facilitate the claim process.
  • Ensure the technical aspects of crop insurance processing and tracking (with assigned Insurance Officers) are timely, accurate, and in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Develops a customer relationship by proactively cross-selling core products and other services to our customers or prospective customers.
  • Monitors database entry and reporting; maintains association database; processes required reports from Farm Credit Mid-America databases; and backs up information daily.
  • Build expertise in the areas of agriculture, risk management, insurance and technology and the needs of the ag producer market.

Minimum Education & Experience

High School diploma and at least six years of successful experience in two or more of the following areas: administrative support, financially related customer service or computer operations.  Successfully obtain and maintain a crop insurance license to sell and service crop insurance.  

-OR-   Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business or related field.
