COMPENSATION: $97,488.00 to $191,247.00  base salary plus potential for variable compensation. Base pay is determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

About Our Opportunity

Our Director Retail Credit Underwriting leads a team of Credit Officers supporting the Retail Agriculture portfolio of Farm Credit Mid-America. They are responsible for setting credit team goals consistent with attaining Association goals. They provide coaching in credit analysis, decision making, credit administration, and effectively maintaining relationships with key internal and external customers. The financial needs of Retail Agriculture customers, which include both part-time and full time farmers, may exceed $5 million.

Supports the Head of Credit Agricultural Underwriting in the strategic planning, budgeting process and aligning team goals with attaining association goals.  Works closely with leaders and appropriate teams to implement improved processes and tools.

Approves or denies loans within their delegated authority, makes recommendations for loans exceeding authority and establishes appropriate loan terms and structures to manage loan risks.Individual authority level may be up to $5 million or up to $7.5 million in conjunction with other Directors.

  • Applying expertise to analyze and solve problems.
  • Providing strategic leadership and direction to staff that results in effective credit delivery, resulting in outstanding customer service, quality sales, and a sound portfolio.
  • Consulting and coaching staff to deliver desired results as measured by credit quality, credit administration, financial results, and growth.
  • Monitoring the quality of loan portfolio and reporting analyses of specific adverse credit trends, risks, or problems.
  • Developing staff to deliver “value added” agricultural and financial information that will assist our customers and prospective customers in their business.
  • Developing the team to serve as Association resources to provide sound credit decisions and to work with the Head of Credit Agricultural Underwriting to negotiate terms and products that best serve the customer and the Association.
  • Providing support in quality sales through: large and complex loan analyses; team customer calling; and approval for loans outside of team members' authority.
  • Leads the team in serving internal and external customers by providing an efficient and reliable customer experience relating to loan decisions, credit support, and processing servicing requests, while maintaining sound loan quality and credit administration.
  • Collaborates with sales leaders in achieving portfolio growth goals while determining ways to deliver value beyond the customer’s capital needs.
  • Leads the team to exceed turnaround time expectations.
  • Recommends, implements, and administers regulations, policies, and procedures in relation to credit and operational objectives.

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business or related field while having at least five years of Credit Analysis experience or similar position. Three of those must have been in a leadership role or having demonstrated leadership capabilities.

 

Mental & Physical Requirements

While engaged in this position, team members will routinely sit, use hands for tasks, and communicate orally. Standing or walking is frequently required, while occasional demands include reaching with hands and arms, and lifting or moving up to ten pounds. Vision requirements encompass close and distance vision. The work environment typically has a moderate noise level. This role may entail a blend of mental and physical capabilities, requiring strong mental acuity, problem-solving skills, and occasional physical tasks such as standing, lifting, or extended computer usage. Some roles may require physical or mental requirements related to driving, such as a valid driver's license, and the ability to drive a long-distance.
