SCHEDULE:  Full Time, Onsite 
TRAVEL REQUIRED:  50% - 75% 

LOCATION:  May sit in any retail office (Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Arkansas)

 

COMPENSATION: $65,184.00 to $154,755.00  base salary plus potential for variable compensation. Base pay is determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

About Our Opportunity

Team members in this role serve the Association’s internal and external customers by managing and servicing assigned accounts that are currently involved in litigation. The primary goal of the Litigation Officer is to assist a borrower in resolving the litigation and returning the customer to viability, or to exit the lending relationship.  Litigation Officers collaborate with retail team members, customers, and outside counsel to evaluate the financial position of the borrower and facilitate both servicing and litigation solutions. 

How You Will Spend Your Time

  • Manages a multi-million-dollar adverse portfolio to resolve litigation and continue servicing objectives set forth in action plans.
  • Builds relationships with Ag Retail, Retail Credit, and outside counsel to become familiar with a customer’s operation and determine litigation strategies.  
  • Participates in joint meetings to be proactive on accounts that may become distressed or enter litigation.
  • Communicates with customers and outside counsel often to make determination of need while balancing the Association’s interest in maintaining sound credit and acceptable non-accrual volume.
  • Makes outside counsel engagement decisions and works collaboratively with counsel to create consistent litigation strategies across the Association based upon data collected and analyzed.
  • Completes retail office visits, customer visits, depositions, mediations, and other legal proceedings.
  • Makes sound credit decisions within assigned delegated authority and supports these decisions and analysis in credit narratives. 
  • Builds expertise in the areas of agriculture, residential credit, finance, technology, litigation and the various market segments served by Farm Credit Mid-America and Rural 1st.
  • Stays up to date on creditor legal issues and shares an understanding of relevant laws and best practices.
  • Coaches, coordinates, and delivers training to education the Association and customers on distressed loans and litigation matters. 

The Senior Litigation Officer role is designated for team members who not only surpass educational and experience benchmarks but also bring diverse expertise to the table. These individuals offer guidance and leadership to peers while consistently delivering high-quality performance in their duties. They will mentor and train while serving as a subject matter expert for team members, partners, and other departments across the association.

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Business or related field. 

2 years successful experience in credit, resolutions, sales or similar role. Knowledge of agriculture production, methods, products, and value-added business and agriculture concepts. Experience in negotiating credit and/or litigation packages.

Mental & Physical Requirements

While engaged in this position, team members will routinely sit, use hands for tasks, and communicate orally. Standing or walking is frequently required, while occasional demands include reaching with hands and arms, and lifting or moving up to ten pounds. Vision requirements encompass close and distance vision. The work environment typically has a moderate noise level. This role may entail a blend of mental and physical capabilities, requiring strong mental acuity, problem-solving skills, and occasional physical tasks such as standing, lifting, or extended computer usage. Some roles may require physical or mental requirements related to driving, such as a valid driver's license, and the ability to drive a long-distance.
