SCHEDULE:  Full Time 
TRAVEL REQUIRED:  10% + 


COMPENSATION: $63,595.00 to $119,842.00  base salary plus potential for variable compensation. Base pay is determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

About Our Opportunity

Assist in the development and documentation of the Associations’ Internal Control over Financial Reporting program to ensure compliance with Farm Credit Administration (FCA) Regulations, Bank General Financing Agreement (GFA) and incorporate emerging guidance from the FCA, Public Certified Accountant Oversight Board (PCAOB), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) sections 302 and 404 and Farm Credit System Workgroup, as applicable.  Work with Association process and control owners to understand assessment of risk and changes to key process and controls throughout the year.

How You Will Spend Your Time

Assist in the documentation of business processes and information technology programs relevant to external financial reporting in compliance with FCA, SOX and GFA guidance. 

Assist in the development and implementation for all activities relating to compliance with FCA, SOX and GFA requirements and regulations to support the annual attestation by the CEO and CFO including:

  • Identifying risks associated with financial reporting.
  • Completing walkthroughs with process and control owners for significant scoping items.
  • Documenting key processes, risks, controls, IT systems, reports and spreadsheets using system generated templates. 
  • Determining design effectiveness of controls.
  • Coordinating and overseeing quarterly certification of key processes and controls.  
  • Updating program documentation based on noted changes, working with the SOX Compliance Manager(s) to evaluate materiality of change for quarterly reporting and certification.

Perform follow-up procedures on identified deficiencies to ensure appropriate management action plans and timelines are in place for remediation.

Provide Subject Matter Expertise and recommendations on Internal Control requirements and compliance to include business process key controls, key reports, spreadsheets risks and controls, for all Association departments.


Assist in the development of and conduct SOX compliance training for employees, as needed.

Assist with communication between internal team(s), auditors, Bank ICFR team related to SOX activities and develop professional relationships with System SOX Champions.

Evaluate impact of developments and changes to the SOX program from pronouncements by FASB, FCA, PCAOB, COSO and other regulatory bodies.


Other Duties as assigned by CFO. 

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Minimum of two years of SOX Compliance or public accounting or relevant industry internal control or audit experience.
Professional Certification obtained or working toward (CPA, CIA, CISA) is desired.  Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Use a computer and similar office technology and tools.  This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information
  • Speak and make presentations to individuals or groups on technical subjects related to job.
  • Travel via auto or commercial transportation to carry out essential responsibilities of the job.
  • Successfully interact with and represent the organization to customers, staff, officers, board members, vendors, and/or the public at all levels.
  • Provide sound technical advice to customers and other staff in the subject field(s) related to this position.
  • Understand and explain various subject matter and consulting concepts, programs, terminology, and methods.
  • Reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate, decide, and critique such information as written material, numerical data, responses to customer needs, and/or other related work activities.
